What are the best moving house tips?
The best moving house tips are to declutter before you pack, start early, and label every box by room.
Most of the stress comes from leaving things too late, so tackling the boring jobs first makes the day itself easier. Get rid of anything you don't want to pay to move: charity shop it, sell it, or bin it before the boxes come out. Start packing non-essential rooms, the spare room, loft, garage, weeks ahead rather than leaving everything to the last few days. Label boxes by room, not just contents, so the removal team or your future self knows where each one goes. Pack a first-night essentials box, bedding, toiletries, chargers, kettle and mugs, so you're not digging through forty boxes at 9pm. Keep passports and anything irreplaceable with you rather than on the van. Confirm times and access with everyone involved a day or two before, so moving day runs to schedule.
Once you're in, a moving house gift of the new place makes a good start to the first wall. See our moving house checklist for who to notify.
