Autumn Street

Leaves cover everything. Big trees in orange and gold arch over a residential street, and fallen leaves scatter across the road and the pavement. On both sides stand houses with bay windows and chimneys, some painted terracotta, some pale stone. A couple under umbrellas walk a small dog past railings and pots of flowers, and an old car is parked further down. The far end of the street fades into a soft misty light.

The watercolour is rich and atmospheric. Amber, rust and orange fill the trees, and cool grey-blue shades the road and the distance, so the warm colours glow. It is a cosy pick for someone who loves this time of year, or who lives on a tree-lined road and walks it every day. It looks good in a sitting room, a reading corner or a hallway, especially as the evenings draw in.

The tall version has the leafy canopy at the top and a long stretch of wet road at the bottom. The wider formats crop to the houses, the trees and the walking couple, and lose most of that road. The mug shows the full street. More pictures like this one are on our house paintings page.
