A duck-egg blue door under climbing roses, in soft watercolour
The Blue Front Door, framed poster
A front door says a lot about a home. This one is painted in a soft duck-egg blue, with raised panels, a brass lion's-head knocker and a brass letterbox. It sits in a stone arch, and pale roses climb up and over the top. On the stone step there is a terracotta pot of bright red geraniums, which bring a splash of strong colour.
The paint is watercolour, so the edges stay loose and the paper shows through in places. The palette is mostly cream, sand and that gentle blue, with green leaves and the red flowers to lift it. It is a lovely present for someone who has just painted their own door, or who has finally got the keys to a place with a door to call theirs. It looks at home in a hallway, by the stairs or in a bright kitchen.
The full picture is tall. The framed poster and the mug show the whole arch, the step and the pot. On canvas, metal and wood the wider shape crops in to the middle of the door, so you get the knocker, the letterbox and the geraniums along the bottom edge. The cushion is printed on the front only and filled with fibre. The jigsaw comes in a metal tin with the picture on the lid. The puzzle is landscape, so the picture is trimmed to that shape. The photo shows the part every size keeps; some sizes keep a little more at the edges. The bauble is ceramic, made to hang on the tree.
