Terrace in Spring

Mint, sky blue, cream, pink, butter yellow and peach. Each house in this terrace is painted a different pastel, and the row runs down a curving road towards green hills and a strip of blue water. Cherry trees in pink and white blossom line the pavement. A couple of tiny figures stroll along, one with a little dog, and soft white clouds sit above the hills.

Terrace in Spring is drawn in the style of a mid-century travel poster. That means flat blocks of colour, clean edges and hardly any shading, so it reads clearly from across a room. It is cheerful without being loud. It suits anyone who lives in a terraced street and loves it, or someone moving into their first house on one. Hang it in a kitchen, a child's room or a sunny landing.

The original is tall, with a wide band of sky at the top. The framed poster and the mug keep that sky. On canvas, framed canvas and metal the picture is cropped wider, so the coloured fronts and the blossom fill the frame, with the hill and the water just showing at the top.
