It's the low-risk one. A picture for a wall asks the recipient to like it enough to hang it, in a room they may not have decided about yet. A mug asks nothing at all, and it still carries the same illustration of the same house.
Why it works when a print doesn't
Two situations. The first is a house still full of boxes, where there's genuinely nowhere for anything to go and a wall piece will sit behind a door for a season. The second is the recipient who's awkward about being given art, because a mug lets them keep the thing without having to display it, and they end up using it daily anyway.
It's also the natural second item. A framed print for the wall and a mug for the kitchen, from the same photograph, is a better pair than two things that don't know about each other.
The mug itself
One size: 11 oz, white ceramic, with the illustration printed around it. We used to list a 15 oz as well and no longer do, because it cost meaningfully more to make for the same money and one mug size is a simpler promise than two.
Which style suits a mug
The graphic ones survive the curve best. Fine line, bold ink and screen print stay legible wrapped around a cylinder, and they read as design rather than as a photograph of a house on a mug. Watercolour works if the house has a strong shape under the washes. Evening light and charcoal are the two we'd steer you away from here, because both depend on tonal depth that a small curved surface flattens.
How the picture gets there
Send one daylight photograph of the front of the house, shot straight on. The style is yours to pick from eight: fine line, soft watercolour, bold ink, blueprint, pen and wash, screen print, evening light and charcoal. You see it previewed on screen first, watermarked and free of charge, and the mug isn't printed until you've approved that preview. There's no text field on this one, so nothing is captioned with a name or a moving-in date. Want the photograph itself rather than an illustration, and that is an option too.
