What is on a moving house checklist?
A moving house checklist covers notifying everyone who needs your new address, booking removals, and packing room by room so nothing goes missing on the day.
Work through it roughly in order, official notifications first, then removals, then packing, and the last-minute jobs sort themselves out. Start with the official notifications: the council for council tax, your utility suppliers, your bank, your GP, the DVLA, and your employer. Royal Mail's redirection service catches anything you miss. Book your removal firm well ahead, especially for a Friday move, when demand is highest. Pack room by room rather than by category, label each box clearly, and keep an essentials box, kettle, chargers, toiletries, separate so it travels with you. On the day itself, read the meters at both addresses before the keys change hands, so nobody's billed for someone else's usage.
