Our House Print

Stage 3 of 4

The gift

Who it is for changes what lands: a first home, a couple, a man who says he wants nothing, a family mid-move.

A sheet of watercolour paper on a wooden table by a window, carrying a faint pencil outline of a house, with a paintbox, a brush and a mug of tea beside it.

Price decides far less here than fit does. A couple buying their first flat and a family moving for the fourth time want different things from the same shelf, and "new home gift" as a category is mostly candles that could have gone to anybody. These pages start from the person and the house instead, and they are honest about which of our own products actually suit each case and which do not.

The reading, in order

Got the photo already?

What these pages keep concluding

Six landings, six different starting points, and the same conclusion arrives at all of them: what lands is a gift that is about this house rather than about moving in general. Almost nothing generic survives that test. A photograph of the front of the place does, because there is exactly one house it can be about, and that is the object this stage argues for.

And after that

The stage after this one is on the wall: What each format physically is, which wall it suits, and the sixteen painted houses already made.
