What is a house portrait?
A house portrait is artwork of a specific building rather than a generic one: your house, the way it actually looks, with its own door, its own brickwork, the tree that leans over the gate. People commission them for the same reasons they photograph a house on completion day. It is the first home, or the last one a parent lived in, or the one everybody grew up visiting.
Traditionally that meant finding an artist, waiting weeks and paying commission prices. The three illustration styles
Line art is the most popular style (clean black lines on white paper, architectural and minimal. Works for any property type and reads as a design object rather than a sentimental gift. The contemporary choice.
Watercolour is the warmest style) soft colour washes that bring out brickwork, render, and garden planting. Best for period properties, cottages, and homes with character. The most painterly and impressionistic option. Ink is bold and graphic (strong contrast, confident lines. Works particularly well for Victorian terraces, townhouses, and properties with architectural features.
Framing the print
The print arrives flat in a rigid-backed mailer) no curl, no roll. It fits any standard frame of the corresponding size. White and natural wood frames suit the cream and grey tones of the watercolour style; black frames work best with line art and ink; oak frames sit comfortably with all three.
For prints larger than A3, consider a local framer: they can cut a custom mount that gives the illustration breathing room and elevates the finish. A white mount cut to the illustration area, with the print sized to the frame outside, is the gallery-standard presentation.
