People search for a house illustration, a house sketch and a house line drawing, and the starting point is the same for all three: a photograph of the front of the house. What differs is how it is drawn. A line drawing is outlines only. A sketch adds shading or a loose wash. Other illustrations are in full colour. We make all three from one photo, and you choose which.
How ours is made
You upload one photo on create your print. The AI redraws it in the style you choose, and you see the result as a watermarked preview before you pay. Up to three successful previews a day are free once your email is verified, so you can compare three styles in one sitting. Then you choose a product and approve the artwork you want, and we print that one.
Made by AI from your photo. You see a free watermarked preview before you pay, and nothing prints until you approve it.
The eight styles, and which are line drawings or sketches
The studio has eight styles. Here is what each one does, in the words the studio uses.
- Fine Line is the line drawing: clean black-ink contours on a crisp white ground, with no shading and no colour.
- Bold Ink is a sketch in black, white and grey: fine linework with loose grey washes.
- Pen & Wash is a sketch with colour: sepia pen with warm, sunlit colour.
- Charcoal is a monochrome sketch: soft graphite tones with smudged shading.
- Blueprint is drawn like an architect's elevation: white drafting lines on deep architect blue.
- Soft Watercolour is colour: translucent washes and luminous paper-white light.
- Screen Print is colour in bold flat shapes, like a poster graphic.
- Evening Light is colour at dusk, with the windows glowing warm.
If you want a house sketch or a house line drawing, start with Fine Line, Bold Ink, Pen & Wash or Charcoal. If you want colour on the wall, start with Soft Watercolour or Evening Light.
What to photograph
Take one clear daylight photo of the front of the house, straight on, with the whole front in the frame. Uploads can be JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB and at least 800 px. Use a photo you took or have permission to use.
Only have an older or slightly imperfect photo? Send what you have. We review every order before printing and will email you if the photo won't reproduce well, so you're never charged for an image we can't use.
What it can be printed on
The illustration goes on a poster, a framed poster, a canvas, a framed canvas, a metal print, a wood print, a mug or a bottle. Every format is made to order. Your chosen product may crop the edges, as its preview shows, so check the crop before you pay.
How long it takes
Delivery is free in the UK and takes 4 to 9 working days from the order. The preview comes before the order, so the time you take choosing a style is on top of that.
The other two ways to get a house on the wall
The sixteen house portraits are already made. They show houses that don't belong to anybody, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is restyled. They suit a gift where you don't have the photo. If you want your own house, this page and the studio are the way.
To choose a ready-made house instead, see the shop. If you want your photograph exactly as it is, with no illustration, print your home photo. Nothing is redrawn, and what you upload is what is printed.
Check the details before you approve
The AI redraws your photo, so the illustration is a new drawing of your house and not a trace of it. It may alter fine details, lettering or proportions, so look at the windows, the door and the path in the preview before you approve. You choose the version we print, and nothing prints until you do.
